Participating Centres
You can find London Youth Rowing activities at the London Regatta Centre, Lea Rowing Club and Barn Elms Boathouse where we run:
- A Schools Programme that currently includes over twenty schools and more than 600 students participating each month in rowing programmes as part of their curriculum. With the addition of several new junior coaches, the London Youth Rowing schools programme should expand in time to more than 750 young people per month.
- A series of community based week-long summer rowing courses for beginners and more experienced rowers from schools and youth clubs. These are charged at a nominal rate to participants. During the summer of 2005 more than 200 inner city young people were introduced to the sport of rowing at the LRC. Lea Rowing Club and Barn Elms are helping us to expand this.
- A successful and competitive rowing club participating in various ARA sponsored programmes including Project Oarsome, Go Row and World Class Start, a programme to identify talented athletes for national team selection.
- The Royal Docks Rowing Club, Lea Rowing Club and Barn Elms combined have over 100 active junior members, participating after school, on weekends and competing regularly at regattas. Already RDRC and Lea Rowing Club have brought together several composite crews to compete at national regattas.
