Overview
London Youth Rowing (LYR), is seeking a motivated SOCIAL MEDIA INTERN to join our friendly and hardworking team.

London Youth Rowing was founded by Jim Downing in 2004 to give young people across London access to an otherwise traditionally niche sport and in turn help the rowing community become a more diverse, more inclusive environment.

LYR employs 13 full time coaches, multiple part time coaches and office staff to accommodate working with around 10,000 young people in Schools, Youth clubs and Junior rowing clubs across London each year. 

This position would suit someone who is a current student or recent graduate looking to expand their CV with an interest in developing a career in the Third Sector or Communications field. The placement would be primarily based in our East London office (Royal Docks Adventure, E16 2QT) with some remote working.

Time commitment
The ideal candidate will be able to commit 2 days per week (Monday to Friday, could include half days) for a period of three months. The successful candidate will work with our Communications Manager. Travel expenses will be covered up to £10 per day against receipts.

Tasks will include:

  • Maintaining the Charity’s presence on social media sites
  • Keeping the website up to date
  • Writing content for the website and social media sites
  • Helping prepare communications materials
  • Tracking social media impact
  • Maintaining and updating our database of media contacts
  • Assisting with other duties that may be reasonably expected

Qualifications and experience:

  • Current Journalism student or recent graduate with an interest in sport and physical activity; candidates with other academic backgrounds might be considered if they have some experience in any of the tasks listed above
  • Good writing skills
  • Strong IT skills, particularly in using Microsoft Excel
  • Strong interest and knowledge of UK press
  • A good knowledge of social media
  • Must be reliable, self-motivated and have strong organisational skills
