We are sorry to announce that the in-person element of NJIRC – the National Junior Indoor Rowing Championships - due to be held on the 4th March at the Copper Box Arena, London will not now go ahead.
NJIRC 2022 was planned as a hybrid event, combining an in-person event at the Copper Box and a virtual event alongside. Sadly, due to current circumstances we have decided NJIRC will once again run as a fully virtual event this year. Feedback from some of our key schools, partners and volunteers made clear that despite the gradual improvement in the covid situation, they feel unable to commit to supporting the in-person NJIRC event, one of the largest indoor rowing events on the calendar.
We are keen to support and repay the loyal band of entrants from schools, Clubs and individuals that have entered already and will be contacting them very soon to let them know how they can amend their entries to take part in the continuing virtual event.
NJIRC 2022 is supported by the Henley Royal Regatta Charitable Trust and Sport England and will still be one of the highlights of the rowing calendar. The NJIRC team have been discussing some fantastic plans and ideas of how to link up to LYR’s operating centres across London, Leeds, Bradford, Wakefield, and their newest sites in Kent to the rest of the UK and across the globe.
Matt Rostron, LYR CEO, said: “It is a real shame we are not able to run the live version of NJIRC – it is a highlight in our and many other people’s rowing calendar, but it is just not feasible for us to run the in-person event this year. The hoped for easing of the pandemic will come just a little too early for NJIRC and I am really sorry to those that were, like us all here, really looking forward to meeting up and racing again.” Matt added “as disappointing as it is to not go live this year, we are all really excited about running another virtual event to build on our success from Virtual NJIRC 2021. We have some fantastic ideas to help us still connect all of our partner schools and the rowing community in a truly global event again”.
We will be releasing more information in the next week or so but in the meantime if you have already entered NJIRC Live and would like to discuss next steps, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
