Mark Hunter Expand Mark Hunter began rowing at an early age, competing in the London Youth Games for the London Borough of Havering. He made his GB debut in 1997 competing in the Under 23 age group. Mark went on to compete in 3 Henley Royal Regatta races, 11 World Cups, 3 World Championships and 3 Olympics. As a result, he achieved great success throughout his career. In particular, he became Olympic Champion winning Gold in the Double Sculls at the 2008 Beijing Olympics with his partner Zac Purchase. This was followed by double Golds in the 2008 World Cups in Poznan and Lucerne. During his year off after the 2008 Olympics, he became an Assistant Coach of UCLA Women's rowing programme. Then Mark and Zac competed together in the 2012 London Olympics, winning Silver. He retired from competitive rowing in 2013. Subsequently, Mark worked as Programme Director for London Youth Rowing for two years, managing our junior competitive squads through their training and racing. He now acts as an Ambassador for LYR while also working as Director for the Sports Technology Awards company. Mark was appointed an MBE in the 2009 New Years Honours list, and in the same year, received an Honorary Doctor of Science from the University of East London.
