The London Regatta Centre (LRC) in Newham provides LYR an unrivalled facility to offer on-water rowing to young people in East London. All our indoor rowing programmes provide the opportunity to develop into on-water rowing...

Club row, school and youth clubs

This Learn-2-Row programme called ‘Club Row’ looks to introduce young people from north-west London boroughs, to water sports. These sessions are delivered to groups that wouldn’t ordinarily have access to bodies of water. Currently have 17 Clubs, and 501 Participants.

The aims of this programme are:

  • To offer young people at youth clubs, the opportunity to experience rowing on and off the water
  • To engender life skills through rowing to those who wouldn’t typically get the opportunity to experience it

Development Squad, after school club once a week

LYR have Development Squads at three rowing centres across London; Royal Docks Adventure, Thames Tradesmen Rowing Club and Fairlop Waters Rowing Club. These squads are intended for beginners, often with experience of indoor rowing from our indoor rowing programmes.

The club aims to:

  • Act as a pathway from indoor rowing to on-water rowing
  • Encourage the move into our competitive squads when they are more confident and ready to race

Junior Rowing Squads, after school club 4-6 times a week

LYR has incorporated itself into established rowing clubs across London. By providing a full time coach and all necessary equipment, all athletes proudly represent both LYR and their chosen rowing club. Squads train between 4-6 days per week, and race locally and nationally. See where we row across London to find a squad near you.

The aims of this programme are:

  • To run a high level rowing programme similar to those in other well established junior rowing clubs
  • To encourage high performance rowing and competition, at a national and international level
  • To provide activity and social experiences outside of the classroom

Junior squads are also established within some London academy schools, like Mossbourne Community Academy. These programmes run after school clubs, while also incorporating rowing into curriculum sessions.
