Breaking Barriers

Our 'life skills' mentoring programme aims to enable motivated LYR rowers to flourish as they transition from school into the wider world.

In partnership with PWC, Tideway East (CVB) and the Port of London Authority (PLA), the Breaking Barriers initiative recruits students from our Active Row schools and our corporate partners provide experienced professional mentors and routes into work placements and career opportunities.

Heather Nickson, Rower, Environmental Advisor at Tideway East (CVB):

'I am taking part in Breaking Barriers as I see it as a great opportunity and programme in which to share my experiences of education and career with local students. As a mentor I have gained great satisfaction in knowing I have helped even just a small number of students realise their potential and improved my own communication skills.'

LYR is part of the Coach Core Apprenticeship programme, in conjunction with the Royal Foundation and a number of other partners in London.
