Try Globe Rowing Club's learn to row course this Spring!

 

 

Run in partnership with London Youth Rowing, our women's only learn-to-row course is aimed at complete beginners and people with a small amount of rowing experience who are interested in taking up the sport. It aims to take participants to a level where they are confident afloat and can continue to participate in club activities on a regular basis, if they desire.

Training will be a mix of tank sessions, indoor rowing machine or 'ergo' sessions, rowing at the Royal Docks and rowing on the River Thames at Greenwich. Over the course of two weekends, you will learn about the different parts of a boat, how to confidently handle equipment, manoeuvre and row with technical proficiency, and row together as a crew.

 

Dates and timings:

Saturday 11th May 12:00-17:30
Sunday 12th May 10:00-14:45
Saturday 18th May 0930-12:30

 

In order to participate in this course, and subsequently join Globe Rowing Club, you must:

  • Be able to swim for at least 250m with light clothing
  • Be aged 18 or over
  • Not have any medical condition which would impair your capability to row or affect the safety of yourself or others when afloat
  • Be able to attend all (or the majority) of the sessions in the programme

 

Location: 

11th-12th May will take place at the Royal Docks Adventure (1012 Dockside Road, London, E16 2QT).

This facility boasts a 2km rowing lake, ample beginner boats, an easily accessible dock, gym equipment and an indoor rowing tank to build on-water rowing skills in a safe environment.  

18th May will take place at Globe Rowing Club (11-13 Crane Street, Greenwich, London SE10 9NP).

Here you will get to know Globe’s official club house located on the banks of the River Thames and experience rowing on the Tideway with members of the Globe Women’s Squad.

 

Checklist of equipment to bring with you:

  • Two sets of sports clothes and trainers (no baggy jumpers)
  • Water, lunch and snacks
  • Cold and warm weather clothes
  • Sunglasses and suncream
  • Any necessary medication
