Timmy’s sister started rowing at the Green School, Hounslow. She persuaded him to give it a go, and try a taster session at LYR Thames Tradesmen Rowing Club.

His first rowing experience saw his sister taking him out in a boat for the first time in September 2016, and he’s never looked back!

He has since joined the indoor rowing club at his school Isleworth and Syon, Hounslow; also supported by LYR and Sport England.

‘I hadn’t really heard of rowing. I wasn’t interested because I didn’t know my own potential,’ said Timmy.

He represented Isleworth and Syon School at the Schools Indoor Rowing Competition in December, winning the Year 7 and 8 categories. His rapid progression led to selection for his school team to compete at the National Junior Indoor Championships (NJIRC) 2017, delivered by London Youth Rowing.

‘NJIRC was amazing. The extra activities were very exciting and were great for doing after and before racing. Unfortunately I was ill on the day so didn’t do as well as I could. I was very fortunate that I didn’t have to pay (thanks to the help of LYR).’

As a new member of LYR Thames Tradesmen Juniors, Timmy has since won a fantastic bronze medal in the Double Scull event at the Ball Cup regatta. And, he’s keener than ever to keep winning medals in the future!
