Different Roles 

Broadly speaking you can volunteer in one of 3 ways:  at an indoor club in a school or youth club; at one of our affiliated rowing clubs; or at an LYR competition or event.  

You need not have any skills – some roles only require on the job training.  If you are keen and can commit to some regular hours, we can train you to gain National Governing Body coaching qualifications.  We might even be able to provide this at little or no cost to you.

Coaching Assistant (on-water) Rigging Boats  Checking rig and making changes depending on crews. Interest and ability to work with boats. Maintenance  Repairing boats, painting blades, making trestles, keeping trailer in good order. Interest and ability to work with boats. Water safety  Helping with the implementation of up to date health and safety practices Interest and ability to source information and be able to work with LYR staff to implement changes as necessary. 2 Monthly One of the following; London Regatta Centre (Newham), Globe RC (Greenwich), Lea RC (Hackney) or Barn Elms RC (Wandsworth).
Assistant coaching for small groups Coaching beginner level recreational groups, Learn-to -row groups and evening sessions. Interest/experience working with young people, coaching on water. 2 Twice weekly One of the following; London Regatta Centre (Newham), Globe RC (Greenwich), Lea RC (Hackney) or Barn Elms RC (Wandsworth).
Coaching Assistant (indoor) Taking register and recording other data Marking participants present at a particular session, helping with new member details, fitness assessments data etc. Familiarity with MicroSoft Excel would be an advantage. 2 Weekly LYR Partner (school, youth group or community sports club)
Instructing and supervision Assisting participants where required. Interest/experience working with young people. 2 Weekly  
Set up and close of session Assisting with moving machines or other equipment required. Ability to move equipment. 2 Weekly  
Event Assistant Set up, running and close of events Assisting with set up and taking down equipment, instructing participants, collection of information. Ability to move equipment. Varies – 2-7 As required – minimum monthly As required
Office Assistant/Administration Assistant Fundraising Assistance with funding proposals and research Basic IT skills required. 5 Weekly As required
  National and Local Events Organising Planning venues, equipment, itinerates, prizes etc. Liaising with partners.   2 Weekly As required
