…an on-the-water volunteer

You arrive at one of the LYR affiliated rowing centres.  The LYR club coach will be there to meet you and talk through the session plan for that day.

This may be an after school, weekend or term-time rowing session, and usually involves either indoor rowing on an ergometer, or work on technique in the tank or on the water.
You may be given a number of athletes to work with, or help with a larger group, depending on your experience and what your preference is.

Over time you will be able to train young people and develop them through the sport from indoor rowing to the indoor rowing tank and onto the water.

A session usually involves a warm up, stretch, possibly some drills or other skills work, followed again by stretching and warm down. The volunteer is needed to direct, assist and monitor the athletes during these activities.

After the session, the LYR club coach and the volunteer spend a few minutes discussing the session. The next session is planned at this point as they get ready to do it all over again!
