This week long course is designed so that complete novices and experienced young people from 11 -18years old can come to the same course and still get a lot out of it and it only costs £15.
The week will include three days of intensive coaching on how to row which includes; basic rowing technique, indoor and on the water rowing with games to improve technique and much more. The fourth day is named our fun day (though all our days are fun) and is filled with games and activities that are related to rowing that are more abstract. This day includes our new “Boat Run” which is loosely modeled on the Army versus Navy gun run, in which young people will work in teams to transport a boat through an assault course. The week culminates in a regatta at our centre at the London Regatta Centre where the young people race for their club against young people completing the same course at the two other London Youth Rowing accredited centers where they will be wearing T shirts they designed earlier in the week. The course runs from 11 each day so there is no need to get up at the crack of dawn to be down on time! We are also introducing a points system to encourage participation from all participants.
But there is more…… In September the young people will be invited down to their respective clubs to enjoy a fun day where they can get back in the boats and afterwards have a BBQ with some of the current junior members and coaching staff. This is with the aim that some of the young people decide to become members of the club and join in a sport that before the London Youth Summer Course they had no idea about.
