What happens on the course?
On arrival, there is a briefing session about what to expect during the week, a quick tour of the premises and then the course rules and water safety are discussed. We run a short assessment of your physical training needs and put you in a relevant group.
We get stuck into technique building sessions pretty early on, using indoor rowing machines or tanks if available, before getting out on the water in our fleet of stable sculling boats. Most of the time on the course will be spent on the water being coached by our highly experienced team. You’ll practise all sorts of fun exercises and even video analysis to give you detailed feedback and help you make progress quickly.
Throughout the week, there is lots of fun and games – both on and off the water!
The highlight of the course is on the last day of the week, race day which involves a mini regatta style competition against other course participants. Friends and family are welcome to come and cheer you on. We will even lay on a BBQ to encourage them to stay.
Everyone is invited to return to the centre of their choice in the September term and continue rowing as regular members. Probably one of the first things they will get up to in the Autumn term is experiencing an LYR capsize test, which thankfully is done in a warm swimming pool and is considered good fun by all those who have taken part in it so far.
The sessions run from 10-12 or 1-3pm every day except for Friday when you will need to be on site all day.
