Learn2Row courses

London Youth Rowing has two main functions. Firstly to get young people in London involved in healthy activity. Secondly, for those who’d like to take up rowing as a sport, we have installed top quality, professional coaches into a number of affiliated rowing clubs across London.

Whether you want to just have a bit of fun or indeed, if you’re more competitive and want to see how far you can progress, we at LYR want to accommodate everyone. We can take raw novices to international standard in just under two years and our junior women’s quad have won Gold at the National Championships

Before that however, the first step is to enrol on a Learn2Row course at your nearest LYR centre. There are two type of course – one for still water and one for river rowing. Due to the different levels of skill required for rowing on the River Thames these are much longer and run for a whole term. The cost of these will be published soon.

The Learn to Row courses for still water run for six weeks on term-time Saturday afternoons from 1pm – 3pm and the cost is £30.

At the end of the course, you will hopefully have achieved the basics of technique to a standard that will enable you to row in a fine boat. From there you can join an LYR club’s novice programme where you can develop your skills and start racing as soon as you’re ready.

“LYR has been awarded a Transformers grant, funded by The National Lottery, through the Olympic Lottery Distributor, and managed by East London Business Alliance”

The Transformers grant programme is directing over £1.5 million of funding to communities in five of the Olympic Host Boroughs over two years. The grants are awarded to projects that really make a difference in people’s lives, particularly by those communities most affected by their proximity to the Olympic venues.”
