Special Olympics

Special Olympics is a lifetime of learning through sport and involves individuals with a learning disability of all ages and ability levels – from low motor abilities to highly skilled athletes.

special-olympics-garden-050London Youth Rowing achieved “Associate” status to the Special Olympics in 2008, and we have since been working on a competition format that has now been agreed with Andy Heffer, Director of Sport, Special Olympics.

We plan to establish Special Olympics groups as a key part of the Row East London! programme.

We will be visiting schools, youth clubs and community groups and doing taster sessions, training club leaders and establishing indoor clubs to get young people training!  We also expect to include some Special Olympics events at NJIRC. In addition we hope to support the Special Olympics National Summer Games in its 30th anniversary year.
