NJIRC Race Rules

Please see major change from last year to Rule 8

  1. Concept 2 Indoor Rowers will be used.  The resistance level can be set to the competitor’s preference, but no changes to the setting can be made once a race starts.
  2. Races for competitors from Years 12 & 13 will be over 2000 metres, and the fastest competitor wins.  Races for Years 7 to 11 will be over specified distances as follows - Year 7: 2 minutes; Year 8: 3 minutes; Year 9: 4 minutes; Year 10: 5 minutes; Year 11: 6 minutes.  The competitor who covers the greatest distance wins.
  3. There will be no heats.  Some popular categories may be run over several races, but results will be arrived at by ranking all competitors in a category by time taken or distance covered – whichever is appropriate.
  4. All races must be completed in one go - no split scores (500m averages) will be allowed.
  5. Gold, Silver and Bronze medals will be awarded to the first, second and third place in all categories.
  6. Four Person Sprint Relay - this event is open to teams of either 4 boys or 4 girls, as long as all members of the Team are in School Years 7, 8, 9 or 10. The event is over 2000 metres and each competitor must row at least twice.  The team coach can decide how far each member of the team rows.
  7. The event is over 6780 metres and each person must row at least twice.  The team coach can decide how far each member of the team rows. There is a MINIMUM AGE REQUIREMENT of 16 for the prize. Winners must be 16 or over to be able to follow the Boat Race in Royal Marine Inflatable Boats.
  8. In the relay events anyone can hold the straps onto the feet of the competing team member - he/she does have to be part of the rowing team.
