I cannot emphasise how refreshing it is to see a sport like rowing opening the doors on its national championships to young people of all standards. The effect this has on students motivation is really incredible. The day after NJIRC all of our year 7's came in asking to do 3 minute time trials to get ready for next year!!!

There’s always something going on with LYR.
The two highlights of the indoor rowing calendar are NJIRC (the National Junior Indoor Rowing Championship) - the world’s biggest national indoor rowing competition, and the London Youth Games.
This year NJIRC took place on 16th March in London. Click here to check out results and photos!
The Indoor Rowing competition is the Finale Event of the London Youth Games, and LYR also runs the newly launched Rowing Regatta at the London Regatta Centre.
We run dozens of indoor rowing events every year, from ‘turn up and try it’ sessions at various borough Cultural or Sports Festivals, to stands at big conferences such as ‘Skills London’ (the UK’s biggest career show for young Londoners).
The LYR team create a fantastic atmosphere and run fun activities and competitions which give young people a taster of LYR Active sessions. We can even do a bit of talent spotting for budding champions!
An indoor rowing competition has to be seen to be believed. The noise, the energy, the fun! The rowing machines are connected up to a big screen and individual competitors, or crews, represented by little images of boats, can be seen as they race towards the finishing line.
Onwater, LYR composite crews from around the capital take part in an ever growing number of Regattas and Head races. We even run one or two ourselves – the Novice Regatta in November is a great example.
