Indoor rowing has made a massive impact upon the level of activity of the students in the school.

LYR helps thousands of young Londoners, aged 11 to 18, to gain confidence and skills through physical activity and sport. And we’re developing some seriously good rowers!
We work closely with, and have the full support of, British Rowing, the sport’s governing body, and participate in various British Rowing sponsored programmes including Project Oarsome, Go Row and World Class Start.
We do this through 3 programmes of activity:
LYR Active
We provide equipment for clubs in schools and youth clubs, and train staff and youth workers to deliver a modular programme of physical activity and fitness centred around, but not exclusively using, indoor rowing machines. These activities provide a pathway for young people to other sports, and specifically of course, to on-water rowing!
LYR Row
We run rowing programmes for schools and clubs, starting with taster sessions and beginners’ courses. Above all we encourage regular participation – whether it is recreational, or in a development squad or a high performance squad. Our rowing programmes operate from four affiliated rowing clubs or centres around London, where we run the junior rowing programmes [see Where we are]. Our peformance coaches are able to develop athletes to the highest levels of junior rowing.
LYR Adaptive
LYR Adaptive opens up the sports of Indoor and On the Water Rowing to those with a disability. Our adaptive rowing programmes allow those who are unused to any physical activity to have a go, through our rowing ‘taster sessions’ and school curriculum classes. We also provide a completion pathway for indoor rowing which includes the London Youth Games Adaptive Event and also specific categories at NJIRC
