LYR & Barn Elms in the same boat!

London Youth Rowing is pleased to announce that they have signed an official Service Level Agreement with the London Borough of Wandsworth, and in particularly, the Barn Elms Boat House on the Putney Embankment in Wandsworth.

This means that the great work that London Youth Rowing and the staff at The Barn Elms Boat House have been doing for several years, will be able to continue. The two organisations have been working together to establish a large and exciting Indoor Rowing Programme in the borough where they begin by placing indoor rowing machines into some of the boroughs schools and youth clubs. LYR are currently recruiting for a Community Coach to then support these schools and clubs with help and resources. They then work to provide coaching support to help the existing many varied rowing programmes and courses at Barn Elms Boat House.

Signing this agreement is great news for the young people of Wandsworth, as we can continue to work with the staff at Barn Elms and further promote indoor and on the water rowing at one of the most famous stretches of water in the World, as the start of the Oxford / Cambridge Boat Race” said Matt Rostron, Director of London Youth Rowing. “It proves that the joint goals of London Boroughs and Sports Charities can work together to deliver really exciting initiatives that really do get young people into all sorts of sports”

LYR goes West

London Youth Rowing’s (LYR) work has been expanded this summer with help from the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham. The Water Sports Project was approved in March 2009 and involves rowing and kyaking being made accessible to local young people.

Summer Course 09 Andy

The project really got going with the summer course which was fortunate enough to have ex-olympian, Andy Holmes, as part of the coaching team.
