Highlights of the National Schools Regatta were Jordan Cole-Hossain and Jessica Robinson winning a bonze medal in the Junior 16 Women’s Double Scull (J16W 2x) on the Saturday and Jordan Winning the Junior 16 Women’s Single Scull (J16W 1x) on the Sunday.
The double produced a solid time during the Processional Race that put them in the top six, they then went on to secure a solid 3rd place in the third 500m, with a solid push. They finished with the sixth fastest time from the two semi-finals. The plan was to attack harder at the start of the race which they did and this allowed them to hold onto and eventually break the opposition to secure the Bronze. This was an excellent achievement as both athletes have only been training intensively since September.
Jordan showed true courage in the single finishing in the middle of the field of those qualifying from the Processional Race. After a slow start that had her lagging behind off the start, she bounced back strongly in the middle of her race to move into 3rd place and though a competitor fought back hard, she maintained 3rd to get into the final. In the final the plan was again to attack hard and try and maintain contact with the favourite for the 1st 500m. She did this for the 1st 250m which put her in a strong position and was constantly attacking to attempt to move into 2nd. Though she didn’t achieve this the performance was outstanding.
Wallingford – May 3rd.
The Junior Women’s Quad scull a composite crew from three of our centres finished with a strong first place finish in the Heats to secure them a favourable lane in the final. Unfortunately the wind turned and they were faced with a strong cross wind off the start. It was an excellent effort after a bad start to secure them a 2nd place.
